WORLD'S FIRST BLIND PERSON TO CLIMB MT. EVEREST IS BLIND TO FAILURE
Sunday, June 8, 2008
Climbing is not a battle with the elements, nor against the law of gravity. It's a battle against oneself. — Walter Bonatti
Believe. No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit. — Helen Keller, the first blind and deaf person to graduate from college (in 1904, magna cum laude)
One of my favorite writers, the late novelist Ernest Hemingway, once said: "There are only three real sports: bull-fighting, car racing and mountain climbing. All the others are mere games." This is partly why I was so thrilled to recently receive an invitation from Procter & Gamble Distributing (Philippines), Inc. president James Lafferty to meet the world's first and still the only blind person to have climbed Mount Everest — 40-year-old Erik Weihenmayer. He was invited to speak at the annual meeting of 800 P&G Philippines employees at Palms Country Club, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang.

Anvil Exchange with Winston Garcia
Anvil Business Club will have a dinner forum with Meralco director, San
Miguel Director & GSIS boss Winston Garcia to hear his ideas on the
high-profile war versus the Lopezes for control of Meralco and how he
plans to drastically lower
Philippine electric power rates (which are now the 2nd highest in all
Asia next to Japan), how he sold BDO control to Henry Sy of SM Group and
his past battle with the Go clan of Equitable PCIBank, how and why he
sold billions of pesos worth San Miguel Corp. stocks, where he plans to
deploy or invest US$5 billiohn in GSIS pension funds here and overseas,
his assessments of Philippine economy now and prospects for business,
his views on business management, how to be successful in
business in the Philippines now with our current socio-economic and
political situation nowadays...
Winston Garcia is part of the influential media business/newspaper business clan which has produced many leaders including his sister Cebu province Governor Gwen Garcia, his father Cebu Congressman Pablo Garcia and many others. Is it true he plans to also run as Senator or future Cebu Governor too?
