Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce
and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), the largest organization
in our Chinese community, on June 8 hosted a dinner
meeting for Anvil Business Club (ABC) 2005 Board of
Directors in Emerald Garden Restaurant in Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The main
topic for discussion was cooperation between the two
organizations, for better public service to the
Filipino-Chinese youth of our generation and how to
undertake joint projects beneficial to the Philippine
economy.
Dinner meeting hosts Federation officials were led by
President Francis Chua, Vice-Presidents Alfonso Uy,
Alfonso Siy, Tan Ching, Executive Director Alfredo Yao
and other top officers of their Youth Committee.
The 3-hours dinner meeting was animated, frank,
cordial, filled with lots of humor and refreshing new
ideas on how both organizations can best cooperate to
be of better service to our Filipino Chinese community
and most especially our youth generation.
In behalf of Anvil Business Club, Wilson Lee Flores
said that bigness or being a major organization is not
the real asset of our organization but the exceptional
quality, immense talents, great energies, high
idealism, teamwork and aggressive dynamism of all our
16 officers in the 2005 Board of Directors and our
fast-growing membership. He thanked Federation for
hosting the dinner meeting, for their goodwill to our
group, and that Anvil Business Club is honored to have
this unique opprtunity to work together with
Federation and to be able to gain advices from our
community elders. He expressed Anvil's willingness to
cooperate with the Federation on future major joint
projects.
Federation President Francis Chua was very humble,
explaining that their organization's Youth Committee
originally wanted to invite Anvil to join them or to
have joint projects with them, but he said that they
recognize that Anvil Business Club is now a major
organization and dynamic, they felt it was only proper
that Federation and Anvil sign a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation to undertake major
projects to help our Filipino-Chinese youth. Francis
Chua invited Anvil to become an affiliate or associate
member group of Federation, so that Federation will
have an obligation to continuously support our major
projects, but he stressed that the proposed
arrangement shall maintain Anvil Business Club's
independence and identity.
Wilson Lee Flores also pointed out that we at Anvil
Business Club take pride in the growing contributions
to the Federation of Anvil past Chairmen David Chua,
Michael G. Tan and Bernard Go, and foresee their
becoming future leaders of the Federation. Our officer
Bobby Sy is also active with the Bulacan
Filipino-Chinese Chamber, and past Chairman Peter
Mangasing is also leader of the electrical industry
association, while past Chairman Steven Cua is now
also President of Philippine Amalgamated Association
of Supermarkets (PAGASA).
One of the major concerns discussed by both groups was
how to aggressively promote the Hokkien dialect, Past
Chairman Mike Tan gave his ideas on the importance of
reforming Chinese-language education and promote
Chinese/Confucian cultural values to our youth
generation nationwide. A lot of major joint projects
on a national scale had been discussed.
Anvil Business Club (ABC) is grateful to the
Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce &
Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) for their goodwill, for their
outstanding and dynamic leadership of our Chinese
community in the Philippines for the past half
century, and for their welcoming cooperation with our
organization.
