Thanks to the tireless efforts of past Chairman and
active incumbent Director Bernard Go, and to the
unanimous support of the 16 Anvil Business Club (ABC)
officers, the 1,000-members Math Trainers Guild,
Philippines (MTGP) on June 4, 2005 conferred a special
award for our organization in support of two
international math olympiads last month in Tagbilaran
City, Bohol. ABC President Wilson Lee Flores and Past
Chairman Bernard Go received the special award for our
organization in formal rites. ABC was awarded ahead of
Philippine Airlines, Nestle and other big
institutions.
The special award for Anvil Business Club was given by
and signed by MTGP led by President Dr. Simon L. Chua,
Department of Science & Technology (DOST) Secretary
Estrella F. Alabastro and Department of Education
Secretary Florencio Abad. It was a special recognition
for ABC's wholehearted and vigorous support for the
successful "Philippine Elementary Mathematics
International Contest" (PEMIC) and "Asia Inter-Cities
Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad" (AITMO) 2005 held at
Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, the
Philippines. Throughout these two biggest
international math competitions ever hosted by the
Philippines, the name of Anvil Business Club was the
biggest on stage alongside that of Philippine
Airlines.
During the awarding ceremony, ABC
President Wilson Lee Flores on stage insisted that
Bernard Go be requested to come forward by the emcee
and officials, and be present during the awarding.
Despite no longer being the incumbent Chairman or
President, despite his diverse business obligations
and growing family, and his involvement in the
Filipino-Chinese Federation, Bernard Go continues to
show concern for our organization, attends most of our
meetings, never absent in our weekly badminton
sessions, is active in the Board of Directors, and
unselfishly shares his ideas for the welfare of ABC
and our members. We are grateful to Past Chairman
Bernard Go, thanks!
A few years ago, business leader and our supportive
Past Chairman Michael G. Tan's father Lucio C. Tan had
also donated a huge donation to sponsor another
international math olympiad organized by MTGP in
Tagaytay, and Lucio Tan also gave all the credit of
his multi-million peso donation to the Federation of
Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry,
Inc. (FFCCCII) of which he is now Honorary Chairman.
This is an act of leadership and selflessness, and we
learned this only from MTGP officers.
Anvil Business Club (ABC) supports MTGP, an
organizatyion of over 1,000 volunteer math teachers
and trainers nationwide, who are at the forefront of
the campaign to improve math education in all schools
of the Philippines. ABC believes support for MTGP and
their math education reforms will have tremendouis
impact on the Philippine economy, especially in our
fight to eliminate scandalous wastage, excessive
corruption, lack of public accountability and common
sense in many spheres of Philippine government and
other sectors.
